Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)

Remote · Full Time · Marketing

About the role

MeteorOps is a DevOps consulting company. Our mission is to enable companies to build great software freely, with MeteorOps as their competitive edge. With a team of ~50 people, we've grown sustainably for over five years — driven almost entirely by reputation, referrals, and the quality of our work. Now we're ready to turn marketing into a growth engine of its own, and we're looking for a Chief Marketing Officer to build and own it.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll define the marketing strategy, but you'll also be the person executing much of it in the early days: writing copy, shaping content, running campaigns, and digging into the data. Over time, you'll build the team, systems, and playbooks that let marketing scale beyond you.

What you'll focus on

  • Positioning & brand: sharpen how MeteorOps is understood in a crowded DevOps/consulting market — for clients, engineers, and partners
  • Demand generation: build a predictable pipeline of qualified leads through content, SEO/GEO, paid channels, and partnerships
  • Content engine: turn our engineers' deep expertise (Kubernetes, cloud, HPC/GPU, platform engineering) into content that earns trust and ranks
  • Marketing foundations: analytics, attribution, tooling, and processes that make growth measurable and repeatable

How you'll work

You'll work directly with the founders and account/sales functions, with full ownership of the marketing budget and roadmap. Expect a pragmatic, evidence-driven environment: we care about what measurably moves pipeline and brand, not vanity metrics.

What you'll do

Success in this role means MeteorOps has a marketing function that reliably generates qualified demand, a brand that opens doors before sales ever makes a call, and a content presence that reflects the depth of our engineering.

  1. Grow qualified inbound pipeline quarter over quarter.
  2. Make MeteorOps a recognized name in DevOps and platform engineering consulting.
  3. Build marketing infrastructure (analytics, CRM hygiene, attribution) that makes decisions evidence-based.
  4. Establish a repeatable content and distribution engine across search, AI answers (GEO), social, and paid.

From day one

We'll walk you through the company structure, our services, our clients, and how deals actually happen today. You'll audit our current presence — website, content, SEO, ads, and funnel — then propose and start executing a focused 90-day plan.

What you'll own

  • Marketing strategy, positioning, and messaging across all channels and audiences (clients, talent, partners).
  • Content strategy and execution: blog, case studies, glossary/technical content, landing pages, and sales enablement material.
  • SEO and GEO (generative engine optimization): keyword and topic strategy, technical SEO, and visibility in AI-driven search and answers.
  • Paid acquisition: planning, launching, and optimizing campaigns (Google, LinkedIn, and others) with clear CAC and pipeline targets.
  • Market research: understanding our ICPs, competitors, pricing perception, and emerging demand (e.g., AI infrastructure, GPU/HPC).
  • Marketing analytics and reporting: defining the funnel, instrumenting it, and reporting on what's working to the founders.
  • Website evolution: conversion optimization, messaging, and structure — working with design and development as needed.
  • Building the marketing team over time: freelancers first, then hires, with clear playbooks and quality standards.

What we're looking for

Requirements

  • 7+ years in B2B marketing, with at least a few of them owning marketing end-to-end (as a marketing lead, head of marketing, or CMO).
  • Proven track record of growing pipeline and revenue for a B2B services or technology company — with numbers you can talk through.
  • Genuinely hands-on: you can write excellent copy, build a campaign, and read an analytics dashboard yourself, not just manage people who do.
  • Comfortable marketing to a technical audience (engineers, CTOs, VPs of Engineering) and able to learn the DevOps/infrastructure domain quickly.

Hands-on skills we're looking for

  • Content creation & copywriting: long-form technical content, landing pages, case studies, email, and social — clear, credible, and conversion-oriented.
  • SEO & GEO: keyword/topic research, on-page and technical SEO, and optimizing for visibility in AI search and generative answers.
  • Paid ads: planning and running campaigns across Google and LinkedIn (or similar), managing budgets against CAC/pipeline goals.
  • Market research: ICP definition, competitive analysis, win/loss insights, and turning research into positioning and campaigns.
  • Analytics: funnel measurement, attribution, and reporting that stands up to founder-level scrutiny.

Skills & Qualities

  • Strategic thinker who is equally comfortable executing — this role starts as a team of one (plus freelancers).
  • Strong sense of ownership; you treat pipeline targets as your own, not "sales' problem."
  • Excellent written and spoken English; clear, direct communication with founders, clients, and the team.
  • Long-term builder: you want to create a durable marketing function, not just run campaigns.

Bonus Points

  • Experience growing agencies, consultancies, or outsourcing/talent platforms — you understand how services businesses actually win clients.
  • Experience with product management — shaping offerings, packaging services as products, and working from user/market insight.
  • Familiarity with the DevOps, cloud, or infrastructure ecosystem.
  • Experience building marketing functions from scratch at a founder-led company.
